Eye care in Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha
The city we are proud to call home
Port Elizabeth and Gqeberha refer to the same city on the shores of Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape. By either name, it is the place BAYEYEQ is proud to serve — a major coastal city and the cultural and economic hub of the Eastern Cape, home to communities spread across dozens of suburbs.
About Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha
Gqeberha — long known as Port Elizabeth and often called simply “The Bay” — is one of South Africa’s largest cities, a seaport on the Indian Ocean roughly 770 km east of Cape Town. It sits within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality and is made up of many distinct suburbs, each with its own character, from the leafy streets of Newton Park and Walmer to the established family neighbourhoods of the western suburbs and the coastal town of Jeffreys Bay further along the N2. The two names, Port Elizabeth and Gqeberha, describe the very same place, and you will see both used throughout the city.
Eye care for Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha
Across a city this size, eye-care needs vary as much as the people who live here — children whose short-sightedness is progressing, adults due for a routine check, contact lens wearers whose lenses no longer feel right, and older patients keeping an eye on changing vision. BAYEYEQ provides all of this from one group in Kabega Park, welcoming patients from every part of the city and beyond.
